Vintage Dior Brooch in Excellent Condition

A beautiful 1980s vintage Dior brooch. This is without a doubt a beautiful example of Christian Dior jewellery.  examples of its kind! The brooch consists of a gold metal frame and three pearlescent details. This stunning brooch looks like it has never been worn (deadstock) and is therefore in excellent condition. The back features a pin and roll over clasp which means that the brooch remains securely closed.

A little history [you might not know] about Christian Dior…

Christian Dior was born in France on 21st January, 1905. He had not always longed to be a fashion designer – in fact it is said that he wanted to be an architect – and being artistically inclined, at a young age could be found selling his paintings in the street for pocket money.

After finishing school, Dior took over an art gallery owned by his father. He began selling paintings, including those of Pablo Picasso! However, after the great depression hit in 1929 and his father’s business collapsed, the gallery had to close its doors.

Dior then went on to train under legendary fashion designers Lucien Lelong and Robert Piguet, where he gained invaluable experience that allowed him to venture out on his own. He founded the fashion house called Dior on December 14th, 1946.

In 1947, Dior presented an impressive collection of over 90 pieces to magazine editors titled ‘New Look’. His designs were a response to the end of rationing and the war; the rationing of materials had limited the use of  fabrics, so dresses were made shorter, and were not at all fancy. However, now that rationing was over, Dior made the most of this by designing full bodied skirts and dresses. His designs were an indulgent approach compared to that taken during World War II, and became an overnight success!

In 1957, at the age of 52, Dior sadly passed away from of a heart attack while on holiday in Italy. The company continued to thrive, with Dior’s senior assistant – a 21-year-old budding designer called Yves Saint Laurent – taking charge.
