Vintage Corocraft Necklace – Deadstock with Original Hang Tag
A rare example of a deadstock vintage Corocraft necklace. This lovely necklace features gold metal segments/links, each with wild salmon-coloured enamel details. This gorgeous necklace is fashioned in an Egyptian style, sitting high on the chest almost like a collar (but not as high as a choker). This lovely example dates to the late 1970s or early 1980s. It fastens with a fold over clasp at the back.
This necklace is deadstock and therefore in excellent condition, and comes with the original hang tag.
Length (approximate, end-to-end) – 40cm
1980s Fashion & Why We Love It
The second half of the 1980s was one of the most eclectic eras for fashion. It was a decade of bold style, silhouettes and colours. The 80s saw a much bolder approach to colour and texture, including bright, shiny and vivid designs. During this time there was a high resurgence of over the top costume jewellery in brash and shiny colours.
[It was also a time when turtle neck sweaters came into fashion – go figure!?]However, it was not just the clothes and jewellery making a statement in the 80s…
“Hair in the 1980s was typically big, curly, bouffant and heavily styled. Television shows such as Dynasty helped popularise the high volume bouffant and glamorous image associated with it. Women from the 1980s wore bright, heavy makeup. Everyday fashion in the 1980s consisted of light-colored lips, dark and thick eyelashes, and pink or red rouge (otherwise known as blush)” – [Source]
One particular style of 1980s costume jewellery that remains sought after is the iconic eighties enamel jewellery. Specifically, navy blue, green, gold and bright red are favourite choices among collectors.
